Is my partner to be found?
Seeking leader, any gender......any skill level.
Must be friendly, kind, open-minded, in love with tango, and tolerant of my
quirky feet. Apply for position, SOON, at BSYBDY at aol.com

Last night, after an evening of sometimes enlivening, sometimes socially
awkward tango in Los Angeles, I spent most of my two-hour drive back to Santa
Barbara appreciating the warmth and genuine character of my all-time favorite
tango venue......SLO!!!

Most people think I'm loca to drive so far when we have good tango in Santa
Barbara (albeit not often enough), but it's not an ideal fit for me here either.
I feel I can broaden and enhance my experience of the dance wherever there
are interesting and good dancers and instructors, but I've especially been
drawn to Rich's choices, and I would love to do the classes with a partner.
However, one hasn't materialized!

Having been the extra woman most of my tango life, I can say that the
happiest rotation system, for me and, it seems, everyone else in the class, is the
way Gloria and Eduardo do it.......with two lines meeting at the top of the
room, changing partners often, and everyone is moving rather than standing. Extra
women are always dancing this way and all couplings can work at their combined
levels. I know each instructor has his or her own way, but many just say
"change partners" and it doesn't work very well for all. Amazingly, I have found
the two line method wonderful for the general speed with which the dancers
catch on to the material because they don't have as much time to ruminate. (I
find the same with my little dance students......when I have the highest
expectations for their capabilities, they generally come through quickly). This is
just one way....it's surely good to work methodically also.

Anyway.....I want to come up for the workshops and if I need a partner, so be
it, but I'll need to beg. I also believe that although it is good for
everyone to rotate at least some of the time, it should never be demanded.
See you all soon.....I hope.
