hola todos,
It was such great spring days for the last 2 days, but again the cold is gripping us with its polar air. The city of sun is suffering. I caught a cold last week, but am slowly recovering. After this letter I am off to a spa to make an appointment for a sauna and massage to try to detox myself.
I seem to have a full social calender. You meet people easily and they like to invite you to a coffee, dinner, parties....Last weekend I went with some people I met at the Milonga, to an asado, which is a barbacue, lots of wine, mate, and talking and some dancing as well. Tomorrow night I am going to a birthday party in Valle de Uco, with another group from a tango class and with the instructors. I attended their class last week and on a whim asked about private lessons. They surprise is that I now have 2 hours of private lessons per week for $40 pesos, which is about $13.00 USD. So I am taking advantage and they are very attentive and technique is what we study.
I am also in touch with a professor to extend my spanish study for 2 more days, so I will be working 4 days a week about 3 hours per day. I talked with the university, but they are quite expensive, but we shall see.
Tonight, I am attending a flamenco show with about 50 dancers and musicians. It is a good opportunity to see the theatre and hopefully a very passionate show.
Two women I met at the airport, One last spring and one on this trip, have been fun to eat and visit with. There seem to be several people who would like me to stay here, and have some gentlemen they would like me to meet. Who am I to say "no" to such a request!
I am going to do some wine tasting again. I had to take a couple of days off and let me blood return to its normal state! This evening before the theatre is a tasting of an organic winery, which is right up my alley.
I have found some very nice eateries, and I am beginning to be a local. They treat me well and seem to admire my coming to Mendoza and staying for such an extended time.
Two cafe-bakeries I have found have medilunas and other pastries made with real butter and cream. Yum, they taste sooo good, And the tiramisu is to die for. I would be a blimp except that I am walking a lot and dancing as well. And I have only one major meal per day, which holds me just fine. Cooking at home is not to appealing during this time, even though I enjoy it at home.
I am thinking of a ski weekend as soon at it is more spring like. I hope to have one day for cross country and one for alpine. I am going to an adventure agency to check it out. Penitentes is about 3 hours away and much less expensive than Las Leñas, which the prices are in USD dollars!..
I have been invited to a Milonga in Chile, but unless there is a way around it by going with locals, I would have to buy a visa for $100. A bit expensive for a one nighter! The Chileans have to pay this upon entering the US, so what goes around, comes around!
I hope everyone is feeling well and enjoying whatever they are doing. Hope you are enjoying the news. If anyone wants to visit, I have a 2 bedroom apartment.
Hasta luego, chau, besos, Beth
