SLO Tango -- no rest for the weary!!!

 Greetings and salutations SLO tango dancers,



Many of you have expressed satisfaction with Gato y Andrea’s recent visit. I am thrilled that those who attended are happy with the instruction they received.



Claudio Asprea will be coming to SLO Tango dance community Labor Day weekend (September 1-3). The location for weekend instructional events as well as the Chumayo & special Milonga is Central Coast Dance Studio (2004 10th Street, Los Osos). Plan for an informative discussion followed by dancing Saturday night, September 1. Derek will host a gathering at his new, beautiful home Sunday evening, September 2 (with many square feet of hardwood flooring, so bring your shoes :). As you can see, the weekend promises to be fun-filled and more than enjoyable!



Since advertising needs to begin and the website must offer a schedule of instructional and other special events at least one month ahead of time, it is time to turn our attention to this upcoming weekend. After much reflection and thoughtful discussion with Rich, we have concluded that the scheduling and costs for various instructional events need adjusting. Ultimately, these changes are required to ensure that visiting instructors earn consistent, fair compensation and are motivated to return to our budding and eager dance community. The following is a proposal for our upcoming September tango workshop weekend. Keep in mind that Claudio is here by himself; all forms of instruction, therefore, will be led by one instructor.



Private instruction: Privates will be scheduled on a per request basis. The location of privates will be determined by the dancers and teachers. If it is necessary to secure studio space, rental fees must be paid by dancers. Topics and level of difficulty will be determined by the dancers. Privates can be scheduled for any time Monday, September 3.

a.	Individual privates (maximum of one couple): $80 per hour. 

b.	Semi-privates (two or more couples): $60 per couple per hour of instruction with a minimum of $160 per hour.



Group classes: We will aim to schedule six 90-minute group classes over the course of the weekend. The progressive fee schedule for the group classes is as follows: 1 for $30, 2 for $55, 3 for $75, 4 for $95, 5 for $110, and all 6 for $120. Ninety-minute group classes are 75 minutes of instruction and 15 minutes of practice. There is no limit on the number of participants. There are two distinct types of group classes.

a.	Introductory, Beginning, Beginning-Intermediate, and All Levels group classes do not require partners and frequent rotation is encouraged. We will have 5 such group classes.

b.	Intermediate-Advanced group classes will be “couples only” and rotation is optional. We will have one such group class.



Other instructional events: There will be a review & guided practica followed by open dancing at SLO Vets Hall Monday, September 3 from 7-10pm; it costs $15. If scheduling does not permit your attending both, then the review & guided practica, beginning at 7pm, is $10 per dancer; open dancing is $5 per dancer and begins at 9pm. 



I will do what I can to facilitate dancers finding partners, if this is necessary. Please let me know if you are interested and in need of a partner. In addition, if you know that you want to take a private of any kind (and require studio space), let me know at your earliest convenience so that an appropriate time slot (and studio space, if necessary) can be reserved for you. I will no longer be organizing semi-privates. It is up to the participants themselves to construct groups of interested and willing dancers. Finally, if you have comments, questions, suggestions, or concerns please respond to me directly or feel free to begin a discussion within the community. These are important issues and your input is valued!
