SLO Tango -- rotation, skill level, and issues of fairness

Well, I've been keeping out of these discussions, mainly because I
haven't been around since injuring my knee. But, I can't keep quiet on
the "rotation optional" issue. I suppose this keeps some people coming
who might not otherwise attend, but what other purpose does it serve?
It is not good for the dancers who refuse to rotate, and it is
absolutely unfair to those who don't have partners. As Laura mentioned,
novice dancers should not be discouraged from taking these classes.
What about the experienced dancer who has paid for a workshop, but ends
up dancing with a novice for the entire workshop, because rotation stops
when one couple ignores the rotation rule? That person has paid to do a
good deed, but does not end up getting the benefit of the workshop, and
neither half of that couple gets the benefit of seeing how things are
done differently by different people. What's a group class for? Why
not take private classes if you have a partner and don't value the
opportunity to dance around?
And with respect to the issue of how much time it takes to read these
emails? You don't have to be on the list. You don't have to open
emails. You don't have to read long messages.
