Hi everyone, I'm looking forward to seeing you again this Thursday!
I'm especially looking forward to picking up where we left off a few weeks
ago, by weaving in a musical focus alongside dance figures and techniques.
After the previous class focusing on the beat, this week we'll move on
to *melody.
*Tangology 101
<https://www.tangology101.com/main.cfm/title/The-Structure-of-Argentine-Tango%3Cbr%3EPart-2:-Rhythm,-Melody-and-Phrases/id/983>
invites us to "imagine the rhythm as being a steady base that lies
underneath with the melody floating on top." Beat and melody work together
in partnership to form the music, and as dancers we have the opportunity to
hear, enjoy, and move to either one.
Along with music, we'll also work on some specific figures. This week is
the 'ocho special', with a focus on ochos in almost every class - these
flowing movements are a wonderful complement to our focus on melody.
- *6:30 - 7:30pm: "Beyond fundamentals" class*. Overturned ochos.
