SLO Tango -- New Practica

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a Practica here in SLO. I’ve been trying to get one set up for quite some time, but now we have a nice place all lined up.

For those who haven’t been dancing for long you may wonder just what is the point of a Practica? It’s like the step between class and the Milonga. As you know by now, a Milonga is not the place to be trying to refine skills learned in class or giving pointers or ā€œteachingā€ since these activities distract from the enjoyment we seek at a Milonga by enjoying the music and partnership instead of ā€œworkingā€ on it. In class, there isn’t enough time to really practice and integrate what we’ve learned to be ready to comfortably integrate it into our dance. This is why some regular Practica time is so important.

This new Practica will be similar to how our community got started back on Monday nights at the Vers’ Hall. Starting with solo exercises, moving on to some partnership exercises, and then having time available to practice what you would like, at your own pace, with who you want, to a wide variety of music. I and other dancers will be available to offer feedback and help if requested.

The goal is to have fun practicing with each other.

Since the first part of the evening is exercises to improve balance, flexibility, and posture, please invite your non-dancing friends. There is no pressure for them to stay for the dancing part - it’s just an opportunity to have some fun stretching our bodies, minds, and social lives - good for every body. 😊

Hope to see you soon on Tuesday nights, 7:15-8:45, for $15, at the beautiful Studio de Myriam, 3563 Sueldo St, Suite N, SLO.

Hugs,
Rich
