<DIV>Laura,</DIV>
<DIV>Although I put $ in cash boxes when I see them, I've never questioned that
this is not only fair but necessary.</DIV>
<DIV>It should definitely just be an expected part of in-home guesting. To
me it makes the most sense to have <U>everyone</U> do it, and have a kind of
standard cash box so there would be no question. Think of it as a normal
balancing kind of exchange in a social situation.</DIV>
<DIV>I'm so very appreciative of being able to attend the SLO events with what I
consider my real "tango buddies", even though I can't reciprocate very well,
that this would be at least a small way of showing it.</DIV>
<DIV>Thanks so much for your graciousness and hospitality.</DIV>
<DIV>Much affection, Arlene (from Santa Barbara)</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>PS. I'd love to send a donation to the fund right now, for ones I've
missed, if you send me your address.</DIV>

text/plain; charset="us-ascii"<BR><BR><BR>Greetings SLO tango dance
community,<BR><BR><BR><BR>Many people in the community have commented on the
financial burden that is incurred by dancers in our community who host special
dance events. This burden is increased significantly for those dancers who
open their homes or other private spaces on a semi-regular basis. Many
community members agree that this gracious behavior should not unnecessarily
tax our already generous hosts. Certainly, we would rather encourage rather
than discourage such behavior. <BR><BR><BR><BR>One solution is to have cashbox
present at all of our milongas and practicas. Contributions to this \u201ctango
community fund\u201d are, as always, on a donation basis only \u2013 dancers should
neither feel obligated to put in a minimum amount nor obliged to donate at
every event. Funds raised at such events will go towards reimbursing our hosts
for simple items like water, plates, cups, napkins, and
utensils.<BR><BR><BR><BR>I am hopeful that most or all members of our dance
community feel that this is a sensible and fair proposal. Assuming so, I would
like to retroactively reimburse those dancers who have hosted special events
in 2008. Please let me know the cost of the items listed above; as soon as the
cashbox has sufficient funds, I will make sure that each of you is
compensated.<BR><BR><BR><BR>I look forward to seeing you (yes YOU) on the
dance floor Friday at 8pm at Derek\u2019s place (I\u2019ve been working diligently on
our playlist for the evening)!<BR><BR><BR><BR>All my best,<BR><BR>Laura
